12 Holiday Ideas That Are Cheap & Fun!

The July holidays are here! Are you struggling to keep up with the kids and having a lack of ideas on where to take them? Spending time with the kiddos don’t need to be expensive, and there are a variety of activities available no matter the duration – from single day events, weekend festivities to longer holidays, here’s a list of great ideas for you without breaking the bank.

  • Island Fun

An island getaway is a fantastic idea for some family time, since Daddy and Mummy can just take a weekend off instead of taking an entire week away from work. There’s no need for advance booking of flight tickets and doesn’t cost a thousand dollar for the entire family. Singapore is blessed with abundant of islands around to explore – Batam, Bintan, St John or even Sentosa! Simply bring out your weekend bag and pack some swimwear and you are ready to go! Some suggestions include the newly launched The Canopi at Bintan, which introduces the concept of “glamping” – glamourous camping!

If you are not looking to stayover, you can always take a boat across to Ubin and engage your kids with the wildlife and nature. They are sure to be delighted with the familiar sightings of wild boars and monitor lizards!

Sentosa has also organised several activities for kids in June – guests can enjoy Storytelling Comes Alive! With My Little Pony at Palawan beach, where you’ll be transported in a dream world with larger-than-life display, 3D artistic illusions and interactive features.

At the Universal Studios, kids and adults alike can delight in the new Soak-out Water Party with the Minions, Sesame Street friends and other characters. The party culminates in a water cannon blast, alongside high-flying aerialists which sounds like a perfect idea for the hot and sunny June weather!

  • Stay Active

If your kids have an inexplicable amount of energy, keep them going by taking part in active events. With the lovely weather and increasing number of sporting events taking place in Singapore, there’s no lack of events for active kids and adults. Some of these include: Fun Walk along The Southern Ridges, Papa-razzi Run by Safra Yishun, Batman vs Superman Run 5km Fun Run at Sentosa.

If your kids love to jump on the bed, then the perfect idea is to bring him or her to Bounce Singapore, a new concept playground where you can bounce with 28 interconnected trampolines.

The highlight of Bounce is the X-Park, an obstacle course like those seen on the popular Japanese sports entertainment programme, Ninja Warrior. Do note that only children 1.25 metres and taller can try it out. Juniors under 1.1 metres can come by on weekdays from 10am to 4pm or weekends from 10am to noon to play within a designated zone.

  • Museums and Exhibitions

A great way to have fun with the kids and help them gain knowledge is a trip to the museum or an exhibition. Singapore’s museums have been actively organising kids-friendly events during the school holidays and there’s no exception this year. Some interesting ones to check out at the National Museum include:

1. Bike Building with Bikes 4 Funds of the Museums
2. Treasures of the World from the British Museum
3. Masak Masak
4. Let’s Play! An artist-led workshop with Tay Bee Aye
